McCullers Whitaker and Hamer, PLLC was created in the year 2004 under the name McCullers & Whitaker. Since 2004, the firm has grown tremdously. The firm added a new partner in the spring of 2013 and became the MWH firm that people have come to love.
In early summer of 2021, Damion McCullers left the firm for a life on the judge’s bench. This caused a big change for the office including the MWH name our clients loved. Our name changed to Whitaker & Hamer during the summer of 2021 along with our logo. However, the name change
doesn’t change the heart of who we are. We are still your firm for life!

The firm has worked hard to upgrade our services and has added several new attorneys to assist with this. We can now offer criminal and family law services multiple counties, and we have expanded the type of cases we can assist on. All of this ensures that we can be your law firm for life, through any legal matter.

Current Topics
One large part of a real estate transaction on the seller side is paying off the old mortgage. However, this also includes confirming that no other liens than the current mortgage exist on the property.
On occasion, we have discovered that prior liens, which have been paid may not be cancelled on record as required by law. Prior lien(s) disclosed by our title examination as not cancelled of record at the date of closing, must be cleared from public record prior to closing. A major tidbit about this is that our office does not represent the seller and we cannot take the necessary steps to clear the lien for you.
Our Goldsboro office has been moved!
Our Goldsboro officed had resided on Center Street in the heart of Downtown Goldsboro for many years. One of the big changes we accomplished in 2021 was a much needed upgrade for Goldsboro.
Our new Goldsboro is better equipped to handle the needs of our clients, from parking to waiting areas. We have brought Goldsboro a true makeover and we can’t wait to share with you.

COVID 19: Response and Effects
One of the major concerns during COVID-19 surge of last year, was how the courts were going to remain open and safe simultaneously. Courts limited the number of cases heard on each day and the number of individuals allowed in courtrooms. One big change several court systems engaged in was web hearings and calendar calls.
This was a major help for attorneys who were trying avoid exposure or whom had already been exposed, and similarly for clients.
This was made possible by order of Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. However, in June of 2021 Governor Cooper signed into law Senate Bill 225 which allows for court prooceding through audio and video transmissions. This opens the door for courts to continue remote proceedings even after COVID-19 has subsided.
Additionally, the court system is launching an e-filing system for certain matters which will allows court documents to be filed online. They system is not yet live and operational.
Attorney Spotlight: Mrs. Ashley Pinner
She joined McCullers, Whitaker, & Hamer in 2014, and has been an amazing addition to the firm both professionally and personally. While Ashley is an amazing attorney, able to help with you a will or real estate closing, she is also a wonderful mother. Ashley and her husband have two daughters. Rounding out the family are the fur babies that her and her family love to shower with treats and belly rubs. She has a German Shepherd, named Gertrude the Great (“Gertie”) and, a pug name Col. Cuddles, is that never leaves her side.
Outside of her love for her family, Ashley enjoys watching cheesy monster movies. You know, the movies that were made for fun not to actually scare the audience.
This includes movies like Sharknado, Tremors, and anything else she can find while searching the free section of Amazon Prime. The love of cheesy monster movies has become a bonding activity for the family. As they are requested and rewatched multiple times. This is one of the reasons you can often find Ashley looking for older movies that she hasn’t had the chance to
Outside of her love for her family, Ashley enjoys watching cheesy monster movies. The monster movies that do not aim to scare you, but were made for the fun of it.
You can also catch her playing trivia games on her phone or with the family, and she does get competitive. Additionally, she loves spending time in her garden and growing her own vegetables, which she even shares with the office.
When Ashley is not working or busy with her family, she loves to use her time to give back to the community. One way she does this is by being a member of the Rotary Club for Fuquay- Varina.
Ashley’s personality makes working with her a joy. She is a bright spot at the firm, and is often found making someone laugh in the office between her closings/appointments.
